Contact to supply gas under All of Government contract

23/09/2025, 08:30 NZST, GENERAL

23 September 2025 Contact to supply gas under All of Government contract Contact Energy (Contact) has reached an agreement with Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) to supply gas in an All of Government deal from 1 October 2025. This agreement to supply around 1.65 PJ of gas a year will ensure users like schools and hospitals have security of gas supply when the government’s agreement with its current supplier expires on 30 September 2025. Under the new arrangement, Contact will supply seven years’ worth of gas to around 100 government agencies and institutions giving them certainty of supply and price. In July, Contact secured up to 7PJs of gas per year until 2032 from Greymouth Gas New Zealand Limited (GGNZ Ltd). By securing this long-term gas supply, Contact will now be able to support hundreds more New Zealand businesses, critical gas consumers, and thousands of Kiwi households as they transition in a managed, orderly way from fossil fuels to a renewable energy future. “We have committed to invest more than $2 billion building the critical renewable energy infrastructure New Zealand needs to support economic growth,” says Contact CEO Mike Fuge. “Contact’s recent actions to secure gas for the medium term will support security of supply for essential institutions like schools and hospitals, as well as Kiwi businesses and homes. This way we can help them continue to operate and walk alongside them as they transition to a renewable energy future.” MORE INFORMATION Investor enquiries Shelley Hollingsworth Head of Corporate Finance (Acting) +64 27 227 2429 investor.centre@contactenergy.co.nz Media enquiries Louise Wright Head of Communications and Reputation +64 21 840 313 media@contactenergy.co.nz
